Terroir In the High Desert
Nothing is happening in Idaho…
After spending over a year working on this love story to the growing Idaho wine industry and its citizens and receiving zero support from its commission, wineries, and industry professionals; Terroir in the High Desert has been flushed down the toilet by Wes and Dustin, their friendship nearly ended, and they both resigned from the wine world.
Something is happening in Idaho…
Idaho wine started as a counterculture movement, not as a motion to join high society. From Ancient Astronaut theologians to Sonoma County’s expert sommeliers, Evil Wine Films presents Terroir in the High Desert: a “gonzo” approach to the process, benefits, and struggles of making wine in Idaho.
Terroir, typically associated with the attributes of a wine region’s soil is applied to the creators and consumers of Idaho Wine. Filmmakers, Wes Malvini and Dustin Jones, offer an insider’s look into the volcanic past, present, future, and boot of the world’s next great wine region.
Joining the team as producer and cinematographer is Michael D. Gough; a seasoned documentarian of the Casper Wyoming Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, the events of Hurricane Katrina, and cinematography of notable feature films.
Terroir in the High Desert started production in the fall of 2009 under the title The Standing Head, focusing on the harsh conditions of harvest in Idaho. The story has branched out beyond the scope of the wine making process and into the lives and histories of the people practicing the art of wine… Idaho style.
Throughout production, pieces of the movie will be cut together that dispel common misconceptions of wine production, consumption, and over-consumption as well as ask the questions all wine drinkers want answered! Once the film is completed, money from the screenings is going directly to the Idaho Wine & Grape Growers Commission. The film is not just about Idaho, it is for Idaho.
