The epitome of LA bands, Jane’s Addiction has always been the shit.
I grew up understanding that all music should be like Jane’s. Hell, I didn’t know any better. I was only like 6. But after growing up, I realized that all music should have that much soul, inspiration, tragedy, and fuck-your-face-rockingness. Live and Rare compiles some awesome performances and unreleased b-sides. Basically a lot of covers and live antics. The “Birkenstock” story from “Ain’t No Right” was featured on this album before Kettle Whistle was released. “Don’t Call Me Nigger, Whitey” is a bad ass full-band version of Sly and the Family Stone’s classic featuring Ice-T. The “LA Medley” is the Doors’ “LA Woman” and “Lexicon Devil” by the Germs. All in all, a fucking gem to find. Very collectible and very listenable.
